Petronell Castle was built for the first time in the 11th century. The four-wing castle-palace complex that still exists today was designed by Dominio Carlone (around 1615 - 1679) on behalf of the Abensperg-Traun family. The castle is decorated with frescoes by Caprovo Tencalla. The old castle was set on fire by the Turkish army in 1683 and rebuilt in 1690 by Otto Ehrenreich I von Abensperg-Traun. Due to the fire, the ceiling structure collapsed and the frescoes were badly affected, Johann Bernhardt von Weillern dedicated himself to the restoration. Fortunately, both the architectural...
