This is an important sacred place with a rich pilgrimage tradition. The church and the monastery were badly damaged in 1915. The present new church was built in 1928 on the same place. The church is designed as a trilateral building with a transverse boat. The length of the church is 72, the width is 22 m. The significance of the church is the graceful image of the Mother of God above the main altar. The pilgrimage path leads to the top of the mountain, one of the most important pilgrimage routes in Slovenia. The 400-year-old restaurant is famous for its excellent cuisine. In 1672, Emperor Leopold I gave the monastery the right to choose, set up and remove innkeepers who must reside on Mount Athos, where pilgrims are permanently available. Even today, a pilgrim, who received spiritual food in the sanctuary, can be served at the restaurant every day. Within the restaurant there is also the Museum of the Isonzo Front, where since 1989 it has been a permanent exhibition dedicated to all who have lost their lives here. You can enjoy the beautiful view from this place and even see the Adriatic sea if the sky is clear.
