Tarcoles Crocodile Bridge
The bridge over the Tárcoles River is located on Route 34 (Pacífica Fernández Oreamuno) and has been welcoming for years a large number of people mostly tourists, who gather to watch the crocodiles sunning on the banks from the river. Until now, this activity has grown without any regulation, nor official supervision. So, this attraction is absolutely free.
On both sides the bridge had signs announcing the presence of the reptiles and showing the laws that prohibit feeding them. Also there are several restaurants and shops on either side of the road here offering food, drinks and souvenirs. The crocodiles that can be observed can measure up to six meters in length and weigh more than 500 kilos. Some people throw pieces of meat into the water to see crocodiles move and even fight among themselves. As a result some years ago the crocodiles began to change their behavior and respond to feeding (even though it is illegal).
If you are interested, you can go on excursions to see a crocodile show where they feed them with their mouths and put at risk the life of those who do it. Next to the bridge is the shop where you can book the tour.
