Due to the altitude and the fact that it is located at the crossroads of the Mediterranean and continental climate, on St. George the average annual temperature is around 4 ° C, and snow is retained for most of the year; this is one of the coldest points in Croatia.
At the very top, to which access is prohibited, there is a radio and television transmitter built in 1965 by the then Television of Zagreb. For the needs of construction, a road was built, which was asphalted in 1978. The road was mostly built by people from the Makarska littoral. The transmitter is 90 meters high, and the top of the transmitter is the highest point in Croatia, with a height of 1850 meters.
There is a church of the same name on Sveti Juri, built in 1968 not far from the old church, demolished due to the construction of a transmitter. Mass in the church is held on the last Saturday of July, when most believers from Primorje and Zagora come to it on foot.
