The castle was first mentioned in the documents in 1386 as "Turn ze Treuen", and later as "Schloss Tren", and in 1436 a document lists the castle with tower. The castle was strongly fortified around 1530 due to Turkish danger and converted into a massive Renaissance four-story building with three quadrangle and one round tower. Then the castle passed from hand to hand for many times. Before the Second World War, the last owner of the castle was Treb Evgen Souvaly. Today, the building of the castle is used for social housing. And if you are visiting Trebnje it is worth to see this nice castle.
